The Mini Warwolf Trebuchet
During
the summer of 2000, PBS featured the re-creation of one of
the most monstrous trebuchets ever built (named "Warwolf"
by its creators.) Trebuchets were the ultimate super weapons
of destruction during the 12th and 13th centuries. Based upon
the above and other efforts, we are pleased to offer a miniature
version of "Warwolf" for use in the classroom. This device
is a wonderful hands-on tool for training in problem solving,
designed experiments, and six sigma black belt training. "Warwolf"
serves as an excellent follow-up to the catapult. Because
of the complexity and inherent non-linearity of this device,
it serves as an excellent challenge for those who wish to
go beyond the relative simplicity of the catapult. The trebuchet
includes detailed instructions of the use and setup of this
exciting device.

The DOE Electromagnet
Demonstrate the power of design of experiments and electromagnetic
induction! Electromagnets are fundamental to the operation
of a great number of machines. They are used to store signals
in tape recorders, video recorders, and computer disk drives.
They are also used to produce sound in bells, buzzers, loudspeakers,
and telephones, and to deflect electron beams in television
cameras. The DOE Electromagnet allows for the use of
up to four control factors. Full or fractional factorial designs
can be readily demonstrated with this device. The kit includes:
DOE Electromagnet, directions for set-up and operation,
and two previously conducted designed experiments with statistical
and graphical analysis.

"Plop-Plop-Fizz-Fizz" Designed Experiment
Kit
This kit contains everything you need to walk students through
a simple, but powerful, designed experiment. This exercise
can be completed quite quickly - normally between 30 and
45 minutes to conduct the experiment and generate simple
analysis using software. By allowing participants to experience
an actual experiment in the classroom you lay the framework
for enhanced learning of experimental fundamentals. From
this experiment, participants will learn about the necessity
for rigor and control of experimental runs, linear factor
effects, quadratic factor effects, simple interactions,
and even variance reduction factors. We find that few classroom
exercises of this general type demonstrate the variety of
effects seen from this exercise.
Each
kit contains everything the team requires to conduct the
experiment (recipe for solutions, timers, measurement vessels,
thermometers, tablets) as well as instructions on how to
best facilitate the learning experience.
Pricing
is as follows:
Single
team kit is $95.00 plus shipping
Four team kit (excellent for a 15-30 person class) is $279.00
